Unable to renew MySql Reservation

I have a 3 year reservation of 2 cores for what is called AzureDB_MySQL_Flexible_Server_General_Purpose_Ddsv4Series_Compute

It is coming to an end and I wish to renew it. However, when I go to the portal it says the. "This SKU is no longer available for reservations".

However when I try and add a new MySql reservation one of the 2 choices is Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server General Purpose Ddsv4 Series Compute. This name is obviously virtually identical.

As it happens the database I use for my current reservation is General Purpose, D2ads_v5, 2 vCores, 8 GiB RAM, 20 GiB storage. Even though this is v5 it works with my v4 reservation and has done for 3 years. I don't believe this is a factor in not being able to renew.

My plan, such as it is, is to see what is available when my reservation expires. I am hoping that I can just pick up the Ddsv4 one and not have to convert my database so some other series, but I can do if I have to.

The question is :why can't I just renew, if the names are so similar? They look the same thing. Is it a non-technical licensing issue rather than a hardware one?

    Hi @RobertTheBruce,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform! Thank you for asking your question here.

As we understand that, AzureDB_MySQL_Flexible_Server_General_Purpose_Ddsv4Series_Compute SKU is no longer available for reservations, but a similar SKU with a slightly different name is still available. This is why you are able to see the Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server General Purpose Ddsv4 Series Compute SKU when you try to add a new reservation.

We would like to inform you that, Azure periodically updates the SKUs that are available for reservations. It is possible that the SKU you are trying to renew is no longer available for reservations, but a similar SKU with a slightly different name is still available.

It is possible that the new SKU will work with your existing database without any issues, but it is also possible that you may need to make some changes to your database configuration in order to use the new SKU.

    Hello RobertTheBruce,

    Thanks for your question.

If this SkU is no longer available for reservation renewals, it is possibly due to Azure’s phasing out of certain older SKUs in favor of newer offerings. If this is the case, Consider similar SKUs within the Ddsv5 series, such as D2ads_v5, which you've already confirmed to be compatible.

So with that you should be fine if it is no longer available in your env. I would recommend you to confirm suitability with testing in lower envs as well.

You can mark it 'Accept Answer' and 'Upvote' if this helped you

    Regards,

    Abiola
