Windows IoT Enterprise CPU usage

Question

Hi, I'm migrating our OS from WES7 to Windows 10 IoT enterprise. Our overall system is really slow. I'm wondering is any one installed Windows IoT on 2GB RAM and are satisfied with the performance.

welcome to this moderated Azure community forum.

You deploy Windows 10 IoT Enterprise on a device having 2GB of Ram.

As seen here, this is the bare minimum.

So, the performance is expected to be slower than normal too.

In the past, I rolled out Windows 10 on an Atom with 4GB or ram and it was working regarding ingesting data and cloud communication but the user interface interaction was considered very slow.

Did you notice the servicing windows for this OS are closing soon, as seen here?

If possible, I recommend trying out Linux like Ubuntu on devices like these (if your tooling allows this).

You can run dotnet on linux too.

CPU, memory size, bus speed, and boot media all play a role in system performance. Most OEM desire to keep their old hardware for cost reasons. Windows can boot on the older systems, but system performance will be sacrificed due to the newer Windows requiring more hardware resources. I recently ran into an issue with an Intel Atom on an UP board with 4GB of memory could not Windows 10 IoT Enterprise perfectly well, but Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC wouldn't even install on it.

2GB of RAM is too small even for WES7. If you can upgrade to 4GB and change the boot media to a faster type (i.e. M.2), you will see a performance improvement.
