Mismatch in Page Count : DOCX to PDF using Sharepoint Graph API

Hi Team,

I'm trying to convert docx file to pdf using SharePoint Graph API by calling this following GET request -

https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/sites/894f9bf8-01d7-471e-82ac-7354e4c21200/drive/root:/File_Conversion_Test/Header_Banner_Loss_Document.docx:/content?format=pdf

In the converted PDF file, there is a mismatch in the total number of pages.

If there are 238 pages in the original docx file, in the converted PDF, we found 237 pages.

In the converted PDF, we saw data got shifted to previous pages. For e.g. Data on page 51 got shifted to page 50, thus resulting into the total less pages.

I tried using OneDrive Connector in Power Automate as well to convert the docx to pdf but it has the same issue.

How can we overcome this limitation ? Is there any way to convert docx file to PDF keeping the same page count ?

I'm trying to convert docx file to pdf using SharePoint Graph API with custom paper size using Folio size (21cm x 33cm), margin left 4cm, margin top 3cm, bottom 3cm and right 3cm. into converted pdf files it's always convert to legal size. That's made our docx and pdf file have different preview. Please suggest what should i do. thx

According to my research and testing, I have not reproduce your problem, in my test, convert docx file to PDF using Graph API works well, and the number of pages does not change.

Please try to do a troubleshooting, please check if other docx files convert to PDF has the same situation.

We tried with other documents, and we didn't face that issue.

It's just with one document, we're facing this issue.

Please try to do a troubleshooting, go into page setup in Word, and create a custom paper size ,make sure that each page has the same size specifications, for example:

Then, check if the problem exist.

I troubleshooted it and following are the observations -

I applied the Custom Page Size of Letter(with Dimen - 8.5" x 11") to all the pages in the Document :

Issue was still there. Number of Pages didn't match. 238 Pages in Docx converted to 237 Pages in PDF via conversion.

I updated the Page Size to A4 Dimension. Number of Pages in docx became 224.

When I converted this docx to PDF via API, number of pages were 224 but on some pages content got shifted. For e.g. Some content on page 50 in docx shifted to page 51 in pdf.

What we want is to have the PDF version of docx with same data on same pages without any format/data loss.

Hi @Mani Wadhwa ,

According to your description ,it looks like a problem with the file itself, please try to create a new file, then copy the contents of this .docx file into a new file and test again. In addition , I suggest you can try to save as a PDF file directly in a word file. (As shown in the following)

When we try saving docs to pdf directly from MS office, following are the observation -

Page Count/Mismatch is not there.

Formatting Issue(Since that document has comments. Export like this is disturbing the look with comments)

You can also try saving docx file with comment as PDF from Office, you'll get to see the behaviour that I'm talking about

We would like to retain the document formatting without any visibility to comments.

Sharepoint API and One Drive connector is doing a fine job with no comments in the PDF. The only issue is the Page Count and Data shifting to different pages.

According to my research, unfortunately it is currently not possible to implement it using the graph API.

I recommend you can create a feedback on this issue . Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future. Thanks for your understanding.
