Hello Azure Support Team,

I am facing an issue with deleting an old Azure subscription after performing certain operations related to directories and VMs.

Here’s a summary of what happened:

  1. I created a new subscription and set up a new directory.
  2. I deployed a VM inside that directory.
  3. Later, I decided to change the directory associated with the VM.
  4. As part of this change, I deleted the directory first, thinking that it would automatically handle the removal of resources inside the directory.
  5. After deleting the directory, I am unable to delete the subscription and I am seeing an error that I do not have permission to delete the subscription.
  6. The VM that was inside the deleted directory is still operational, and I'm unable to move it or change the directory associated with it.
  7. No data is required from the old VM since it's a new VM, and I don't need any data from it.
  8. I have created a new subscription, and it's functioning as expected.

Issue Summary:

  • The old subscription is still active, but I am unable to delete it.
  • The old VM is still running inside the deleted directory and I cannot move it to the new directory.
  • The error message indicates lack of permission to delete the old subscription.

Requested Action: I would like assistance in deleting the old subscription, as it is no longer needed. Please help me resolve the permission issue so I can safely remove the old subscription, or guide me on how to handle the VM and its associated resources.

Please let me know if any additional information is required to proceed.

Thank you for your support!

    Hi @Syed Navas ,

just for information: The Q&A forums are a community forums and not the official Azure Support. For that reason the options here are limited.

The best option is to open a support request with Azure Support:

    Create an Azure support request

Azure Billing and Subscription support is offered by Microsoft by no cost and it's for free.
