trying to recover a database from SQL in azure VM, it always fails, every option is failing.

I enter the business continuity center->recover->fill the form (data source type SQL in Azure VM, select the proteced item) and click next;

on the next form i choose "alternate location", subscription, target vault and server BUT AZURE CAN'T FIND ANY INSTANCE. Instance is in the server, I'm sure because the backup tonight ran correctly.

All the options are failing: alternate location, original location and also restore as a file.

Last week I had the same problem, it lasted some hours after some hours the problem suddenly disappear and I was able to get the backup again, so I suspect it is a Microsoft problem.

    Hi ,

    Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    Some generic suggestions to narrow down the issue.

    1. Verify SQL Server Instance Health: Ensure all SQL instances on your VM are running and healthy. Azure Backup requires all instances to be operational; if any instance is faulty, the VM may not appear as a restore target.
    2. Check VM Agent Status: Confirm that the Azure VM Agent is installed and up-to-date on your VM. The agent facilitates communication between the VM and Azure Backup services.
    3. Review Antivirus Settings: Some antivirus programs can interfere with backup and restore operations. Ensure that your antivirus software is not blocking Azure Backup processes.
    4. Network Configuration: If you've recently modified network settings or firewalls, ensure that your VM can communicate with Azure Backup services.
    5. Attempt Restore via Different Methods: If the portal continues to present issues, consider using Azure PowerShell or the Azure CLI to initiate the restore process.

    If nothing worked, create a support case with azure.
