How to enable GPU on Azure VM windows 11 with Standard NC24ads A100 v4 (24 vcpus, 220 GiB memory)
Hi Community,
Hope you are doing well. I created an Azure VM with Windows 11 using Standard NC24ads A100 v4 (24 vcpus, 220 GiB memory) but I am not able to find any GPU device attached. I already installed an extension but I am not sure why I can't find GPU and even on Device Manager, I am not able to find anything.
I'd appreciate it if someone takes a look at the screenshots below and help me use GPU on my NC-series Azure VM.
Best Regards
Azure VMware Solution

2025-02-19T02:40:28.8233333+00:00 Hi Williams Roger,
Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A Platform. Thank you for posting your query here.
From the first image I can see that the virtual machine is in starting state. Can you confirm if you are still facing the issue?
After installing the drivers, you may need to restart your VM for the changes to take effect. I suggest try restarting the virtual machine and check.
Sometimes, errors related to hardware and drivers are logged in the Event Viewer. Press
Win + X
and select Event Viewer. In the left pane, expand Windows Logs and select System. Look for any errors or warnings related to NVIDIA or GPU drivers that might indicate what's wrong. Please go through the solution recommended by Derek Herman which might help you: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-gb/answers/questions/1403367/nvidia-driver-extensions-installed-but-can-not-see
Please feel free to tag me in the comments for any queries!
Thank you!

2025-02-19T04:10:30.1933333+00:00 Hi @Mounika Reddy Anumandla ,Thanks for your answer. I restarted my VM and I checked the device manager but I wasn't able to find any GPU attached. I updated my OS up-to-date but I still see some hidden hardware. I checked Event Viewer but wasn't able to find any errors or warnings related to NVIDIA or GPU.
Can you please suggest other ways to resolve this issue? I think for some reason, my VM doesn't have GPU at all.
Best,
Roger

2025-02-19T14:52:36.84+00:00 Hi Williams Roger,
Thank you for reaching back to us again with further information!
If the driver is installed but not showing, I could provide you with some more troubleshooting steps.
- Try manually scanning for hardware changes. Open Device Manager. Right-click on the top-level computer name and select Scan for hardware changes. This can sometimes force the system to recognize new drivers or hardware.
- Run the following PowerShell command to see if the GPU is being recognized by the system: Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_VideoController.
- Use NVIDIA tools like
nvidia-smi
to check if the GPU is being recognized in the system.
If still the NVIDIA driver isn't showing up in the Device Manager or under the Performance tab, it could mean that the GPU driver wasn't installed correctly or is incompatible. I suggest you manually download and install the NVIDIA driver: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/n-series-driver-setup#driver-installation
Hope this helps!

2025-02-19T22:15:13.24+00:00 I tried all the methods you suggested but wasn't able to find any GPU devices. It seems like GPU isn't attached to the VM.
