Unable to Increase vCPU Quota for GPU VM – Need Assistance

I have a Developer Plan in Azure and need a GPU VM for my machine learning project. However, due to vCPU quota limitations, I was unable to proceed.

When I requested a quota increase, it was denied. I then created a support request, but that was also closed. After contacting the Azure Support Team, I received the following response:

Following this, I applied for the NCasT4_v3 Series, but that request was also declined.

What should I do next?

    Hello saurabh soni,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A and thank you for posting your questions here.

I understand that you are unable to Increase vCPU Quota for GPU VM.

Since the quota request was denied and your support case was closed, you will need to take a different approach:

    Step 1:

Verify Subscription Eligibility for GPU Quotas by Go to Azure Subscription Limits and Quotas - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-subscription-service-limits and check whether the Developer Plan supports GPU VM quota increases. If the Developer Plan does not allow GPU quotas, the user must upgrade to a Pay-As-You-Go or Enterprise Agreement subscription.

    Step 2:

Check for Region-Specific Restrictions by try deploying the GPU VM in a different region using the Azure Quotas Portal - https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Quotas/QuotaMenuBlade/~/myQuotas the reason was that some regions have stricter quota policies or limited GPU availability.

    Step 3:

Contact Azure Sales for a Manual Override instead of relying on the automated quota request system, contact Azure Sales directly via Azure Sales Support - https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/contact/). Because Sales teams sometimes have the authority to approve quotas that standard support teams cannot.

    Step 4:

Upgrade to a Higher-Tier Subscription if Necessary as you have been told. If the Developer Plan does not support GPU quotas, upgrade to a Pay-As-You-Go or Microsoft Enterprise Agreement. Navigate to the Azure portal and change your subscription type under Cost Management + Billing.

    Step 5:

If cost is a concern, explore Azure Spot VMs or Reserved Instances, which might have different quota policies.

    Step 6:

If Azure continues to deny the quota, you can explore:

    • Google Cloud - (NVIDIA Tesla GPUs available via Compute Engine)
    • AWS EC2 GPU Instances - (p3, g4, g5 series)
    • NVIDIA’s Cloud GPU Rental

I hope this is helpful! Do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

    Hi saurabh soni ,

Thank You for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A platform.

Due to current limitations, the requested virtual machine you selected can't be deployed on your subscription in this region at this time which can be due to several reasons:

    • Some specific region/sku combinations can occasionally have capacity constraints.
    • Sometimes, if there is a high demand, SKU you requested is not available for the subscription you made the request on in that region at the current time.
    • Due to increase in demand and incredibly popular for AI based solutions which makes more difficult to get specific GPU SKUs in some regions.

However, please try with below possible recommendations to increase the chance of deployment of GPU SKUs.

    • Due to ongoing supply chain issues, it's important to request quota increases well in advance (1-3 months) of when you anticipate needing them.
    • If you still required this type of VMs, try to attempt by deploying in alternative regions.
    • If your current plan does not support GPU VMs, explore other Azure plans or upgrade to pay-as-you-go subscription options that do offer GPU support.
    • However, quota approval is not guaranteed, Microsoft Enterprise Agreement provides the best and most comprehensive choice which can likely improve your chances of getting quota increases approved chances because it supports commercial relationship between Microsoft and your organization.
    • Try to check in Virtual machines selector tool to find other sizes that best fit your workload. https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator/
