Visual Studio Setting Not Being Saved or Used

Question

I have Checked this option:

*Tools>Options>Text Editor>All Languages>General:Hide advanced members*

That option is also checked under Visual Basic. However, advanced members are being displayed when I do a Ctrl-J. I have tried unchecking this, exiting VS and rechecking it to no avail.

Either I am checking the wrong option or something else is amiss.

Any Suggestions on how to disable showing of advanced Members?

Which version of Visual Studio are you using? Please open the Visual Studio Installer and update it to the latest version. 

You can try to reset the environment settings by going to Tools > Import and Export Settings > Reset all settings.  

Besides, you can close all running VS instances and navigate to the following path:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\17.0_xxxx\Settings\CurrentSettings.vssettings 

Please search for “HideAdvancedMembers” and try to change false to true. 

If the advanced members are still being displayed when checking the option “Hide advanced members”, I recommend you report it to product team by clicking on the “Help” menu> Send Feedback. Thanks for your understanding.
