Hi,

Can the high availability configuration for an Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server be changed directly from same zone to a zone-redundant setup ? If so, would there be any impact? Also, is there any documentation stating that this is possible ?

Thank you for the question and for using Microsoft Q&A platform.

As per my understanding, you are trying to change the high availability configuration for an Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server from a same zone setup to a zone-redundant setup.

Yes, you can change the high availability configuration for an Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server from a same zone setup to a zone-redundant setup. This can be done through the Azure portal or using the Azure portal, Azure CLI, or Azure PowerShell.

Impact: Changing the high availability configuration to a zone-redundant setup may have some impact, such as:

Increased Latency: There might be a slight increase in latency for write operations due to synchronous replication across zones.

Cost: There will be an increase in cost associated with deploying a standby server in a different availability zone.

For detailed steps and more information, you can refer to the below documents:
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/postgresql/flexible-server/how-to-configure-high-availability?tabs=portal-enable-existing-server%2Cportal-disable-existing-server%2Cportal-enable-new-server%2Cportal-forced-failover%2Cportal-planned-failover#enable-high-availability-for-existing-servers

    Hi @$@chin

The high availability configuration for an Azure PostgreSQL Flexible Server cannot be changed directly from same zone to a zone-redundant setup.

To implement such a change, you first need to disable high availability, save the changes and then re-enable it, choosing the newly desired mode and save the changes.

    Thank You!
