Issue with creating Network discovery rule in SCOM 2019

Question

Hi All,

When we are recreating the Network discovery rule, we found that the Mangement server dedicated for network device monitoring in no longer displaying in the available servers Drop down (Select a network management server) as shown in the screen shot.

We are able to access this management server, and this server is part of the Network Monitoring resource pool.

Please suggest how to solve this issue.

Hi,

You can create multiple network discovery rules in SCOM, but each management server or gateway server can only run one discovery rule at a time. This means that if you want to create a new discovery rule, you need to ensure that it is assigned to a management server that isn't already running another discovery rule.

To confirm that all existing Network discovery rules have been deleted, you can follow these steps:

• Open the SCOM Console: Launch the Operations Manager console.
• Navigate to Administration: Go to the "Administration" pane.
• Network Management: Under "Administration," expand "Network Management."
• Discovery Rules: Click on "Discovery Rules" to see a list of all existing network discovery rules.
• Delete Rules: If there are any existing rules, right-click on each rule and select "Delete."

Make sure to refresh the list to ensure that all rules have been removed. Once you've confirmed that there are no existing network discovery rules, you can proceed with recreating the new rule.

Hi,

this could be a very simple one: if this particular server already runs another discovery rule, then it won't be available in the list for any of the newly created rules.

Each SCOM Management Server is allowed to run only one network discovery rule.
So, if you need to run another network discovery rule, you need to chose another server from the resource pool, which will monitor the devices.

Hi,

Before we recreate the Network discovery rule, please confirm that you have deleted all existing Network discovery rules.
