We have an issue with a computer connected to Azure AD, after a user account had their licence upgraded to Microsoft 365 E3 from Office 365 E3, Windows upgraded itself to Windows 11 Enterprise from Pro, and now it has failed activation.

Please help us troubleshoot why Windows has failed activation.

Troubleshoot says make sure you are connected to the Internet, but the device obviously is.

This is likely happening due to a licensing synchronization issue after the license upgrade.

Sign Out and Sign-in and then run the activation troubleshooter again.

Open Command Prompt as Admin and type the following commands:

    dsregcmd /status

    dsregcmd /leave

    dsregcmd /join

If the above doesn't work, then try this:

Open Command Prompt as Admin and type the following and hit the Enter key:

    cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato

    Hello,

    1. Open administrator command line then run "dsregcmd /status" to ensure the machine is Azure joined and the user is Azure user.
    2. Check the Azure user license status from the Azure admin center.
    3. We may consider to open a ticket from the Azure Admin center license UI (Right upper corner and click the "help" option).

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian
