Host: Windows 11 Pro

Client: Windows 10

I'm not able to listen any audio on client from host when I'm in a RDP session

  • Rebooted windows audio services
  • Allowed "Allow audio and video playback" on Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Remote Desktop Session Host, Device and Resource Redirection
  • Checked "Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector" service is active
  • Rebooted host machine

Event logs on "TerminalServices-MediaRedirection" and "TerminalServices-RdpSoundDriver" are empty

Any solutions?

    Hi Leo,

Issue reported: Audio on working on a host machine using RDP.

Troubleshooting Scope: We should perform below mentioned troubleshooting to resolve the stated problem.

    ·         Restart the Windows Audio Service on Host machine

Type ‘Services’ in Windows search and open services.

Locate Windows Audio, right-click on Windows Audio.

We need to set Automatic. Then, in the Service status, select Start. And then hit OK.

    ·         Check the Group Policy setting on the host computer

Open Run, then type in “gpedit.msc” and press OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor window.

Navigate: Local Computer Policy >> Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Remote Desktop Services >> Remote Desktop Session Host >> Device and Resource Redirection

Click on Device and Resource Redirection. Then, click on Allow audio and video playback redirection and Allow audio recording redirection respectively, and make sure they are set to Enabled or Not configured.

    ·         Check the Group Policy setting on the client computer

On your local/client machine, open Group Policy Editor window.

Navigate: Local Computer Policy >> Computer Configuration >> Administrative Templates >> Windows Components >> Remote Desktop Services >> Remote Desktop Connection Client >> RemoteFX USB Device Redirection >> Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer.

Click Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer, and make sure it is set to Enabled or Not configured.

    ·         Check the Registry setting

Open Run dialog box and then type in “regedit” and hit OK to open Registry Editor.

    Navigate: Computer >> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE >> SYSTEM >> CurrentControlSet >> Control >> Terminal Server >> WinStations >> RDP-Tcp

Then, click fDisableAudioCapture and set the value to 0. Then click OK.

    ·         Perform an SFC scan

Open Command Prompt using admin rights, then type ‘SFC /scannow’ then wait until the scan is 100% completed and restart your machine.

    Please update with your findings!

    Sincerely,

    CK

As above, on the remote machine, I had to enable "Allow RDP redirection of other supported RemoteFX USB devices from this computer." and then restart the Windows Audio Service to resolve the problem.
