Create a new style in word

·     Create a new style named ‘Requirement #”

·     Have the style visible and selectable in the cross reference list

Style format

o   REQ-Paragraph Section #-incrementing # of req “requirement text”

 

  1. “REQ-“                                   is inserted for each req
  2. “Paragraph Section #”            picks up the active section #
  3. “-“                                          
  4. “incrementing # of the req      starts at 001 and increments for each req e.g. 001, 002, 003… 

Example

In Section 2.4.1 

[Req-2.4.1-001] The system shall turn on the lights

 

In Section 2.5

[Req-2.5-001] The system shall turn off the lights

[Req-2.5-002] The system shall turn the lights green

    If two styles are part of the same multilevel list, you can reference a higher level number in a lower level number (a typical example is the "1, 1.1, 1.1.1, ..." numbering format). However, each style will reference a specific style, corresponding to a specific list level. In other words, there is no automated way to set up numbering in such a flexible way that you are hoping for.
