Create a new connection with Remote Desktop Connection

Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2

To create a new connection

  1. Open Remote Desktop Connection.

  2. In Computer, type a computer name or IP address. The computer can be a terminal server, or it can be a computer running Windows XP Professional or a Windows Server 2003 operating system that has Remote Desktop enabled and for which you have Remote Desktop permissions.

    To connect to the console session of the remote computer, in Computer, type:

computername or IP address* */console

  1. Click Connect.

    The Log On to Windows dialog box appears.

  2. In the Log On to Windows dialog box, type your user name, password, and domain (if required), and then click OK.

Notes

  • To open Remote Desktop Connection, click Start, point to programs or All programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.

  • To change your connection settings, (such as screen size, automatic logon information, and performance options), click Options before you connect. For more information, see Change Connection Settings.
