Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) is designed to achieve complete compliance with the IEEE 802.11i standard, only partially achieved with Wi-Fi Protected Access. In addition, it addresses the security flaw in the 128-bit Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) in WPA by replacing it with Counter Cipher Mode with Block Chaining Message Authentication Code Protocol (CCMP). WPA2 uses the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
The Wi-Fi Alliance now recommends that users switch to WPA2. Since 2006, hardware manufacturers have been required to support WPA2 to use the Wi-Fi trademark.
