Setting Charset

Indexing Service is no longer supported as of Windows XP and is unavailable for use as of Windows 8. Instead, use Windows Search for client side search and Microsoft Search Server Express for server side search.

 

The Charset attribute is the part of the HTTP-EQUIV meta tag that specifies the character set of an HTML page. Indexing Service uses this character set to display the text in the HTML page in the proper characters. In a file written in Japanese, you would set the Charset to shift_jis as shown in the following example:

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=shift_jis">
