Getting Started
Note
Indexing Service is no longer supported as of Windows XP and is unavailable for use as of Windows 8. Instead, use Windows Search for client side search and Microsoft Search Server Express for server side search.
To get started quickly, you can select the most appropriate category and follow the suggestions in the corresponding reference. There is considerable overlap of applicable information in these sections, and eventually you might want to look through more than one.

Note
You must install files for East Asian languages in order for Japanese and Korean text in the SDK to appear correctly.
You can configure language settings in Windows XP by clicking the Regional and Language Options icon in Control Panel. You can configure language settings in Windows 2000 by clicking the Regional Options icon in Control Panel.
