The workflow event sink is the interface between the Exchange store process and the workflow engine. The workflow event sink is automatically registered as a COM+ application package when you install Microsoft® Exchange Server 2003. You can view this package through the Component Services console, which you can access from the Administrative Tools menu. The following illustration shows the Component Services console in Microsoft Management Console (MMC) with the event sink COM+ package installed.

The event sink receives event notifications from the Exchange store process and makes the appropriate call to the workflow engine. See Workflow Engine for an illustration of the calling sequence. For applications that use the CDO for Workflow (CDOWF) event sink, you must create the appropriate Exchange store event registration items in the application folder. For more information about registering a workflow event sink, see Registering a Workflow Event Sink in a Folder. The Workflow Designer for Exchange 2000 Server registers the event sink for you automatically. For more information about developing your own workflow event sink, see Advance Method.
