Hosting a Windows Forms Composite Control in Windows Presentation Foundation Sample

This sample shows you how to host a Windows Forms control in a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) page. It also shows how to receive events from the control and modify the control's properties from the page.

Download sample

Building the Sample

  • Install the Windows Software Development Kit (SDK) and open its build environment command window. On the Start menu, point to All Programs, Microsoft Windows SDK, and then click CMD Shell.

  • Download the sample, usually from the software development kit (SDK) documentation, to your hard disk drive.

  • To build the sample from the build environment command window, go to the source directory of the sample. At the command prompt, type MSBUILD.

  • To build the sample with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, load the solution (.sln) file of the sample.

  • Change the Startup Project of the sample to WpfHost instead of MyControls, and then press F5.

The MyControls project is listed first in the solution because it needs to be built first. However, it is a DLL. Instead, you'll want to run WpfHost.exe, which is the executable file that references and hosts the control, first.

Running the Sample

  • To run the compiled sample from the build environment command window, execute the .exe file in the Bin\Debug or Bin\Release folder contained under the sample source code folder.

Remarks

WindowsFormsIntegration.dll is installed by the SDK to the default folder %programfiles%\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0\. Use this path when you reference the assembly in your projects.

There is extensive support for this task in Visual Studio. For more information, see Walkthrough: Hosting a Windows Forms Composite Control in a Windows Presentation Foundation Application.
