Halo 3: ODST--Firefight and Story
We may have known about Halo 3: ODST for many months, but tangible details are finally beginning to flow, not the least of which is ODST's brand new cooperative Firefight mode and its approach to storytelling.
Firefight
Imagine a Halo-inspired version of Horde mode from Gears 2 and you'll understand Firefight's premise. Four players can team up to beat back the onsalught of Covenant baddies in a quest not so much for victory, but for survival. Not only will difficulty ramp up naturally, but to keep things interesting, Firefight will enable different Skulls on the fly. Halo 3 fans will remember Skulls change the rules of engagement drastically (e.g. giving enemies double health, requiring melee kills to recharge shields).
Story Approach
Halo 3: ODST doesn't tell just one story, but several. As we saw at Microsoft's press briefing, you'll find clues throughout levels that have their own story to tell. Examine one and you'll be transported you to the high-stress circumstances of another "Hell Jumper," showcasing the battle for New Mombasa from their perspective. Good stuff.
Oh, and don't forget that when you pick up Halo 3: ODST this Fall, you'll get an invitation to Halo: Reach's multiplayer beta!
