Who cares? The world will be ready to trade in their WiMo phones and rushing to get the Palm Pre on May 16th. Microsoft, who had the very best, and innovative smart phones on the market, fell asleep in their success, and now they are insignificant. Finally with the Palm Pre, we have a phone with all the features and more than the iPhone and a WiMo phone matched up with a great network, which unfortunately the iPhone cannot boast.Anonymous

Hehe, while the Pre may be sharp, it is running on a failing network... and I quote... From SF Chronicle Friday, February 6, 2009 'Sprint lost 1.3 million customers last quarter and is expected to lose a million more when it reports earnings later this month' From Endagdet Mobile Mar 20th 2009 'Palm's total earnings for the quarter fell 71 percent over last year, from $312 million to just $90.6 million. Palm stock fell a net 53 cents quarter over quarter' It is good to see some competition catch up to the offerings of AT&T, but if you are talking about OS, Palm is just now catching up to the likes of HTC Touch Flo interface, which has been running since Mobile 6.0 mind you. I have owned windows mobile devices since the SMT 5600 on Cingular, not until the iPhone did anyone truly compete with everything you could do on it. Even the iPhone falls short in many areas compared to the likes of the Touch Pro / Fuze. Where MS has fallen asleep third parties have stepped in. By the time the HTC Touch Pro 2 lands in the US, no phone will be close to its abilities, and features. All of that is before the next software refresh of mobile 6.5. This hardware / software combination has yet to be proven, look at the Storm, quietly gone by the wayside. The iPhone is currently the dominator in this market, and as much as I hate to admit it, that phone rocks, but my Fuze runs circles around it. IF the Pre doesn't come through, there will be no more Sprint... period, they have nothing else noteworthy that they offer that is unique.Anonymous

Question though. this might be a really dumb question, but how cam I update My 6.1 Win Mo phone to 6.5? Do I have to pay for it?? Or am I stuck with 6.1? I have the new Samsung i910 Omnia on Verizon if that helps.Anonymous

My TweetDeck today is blowing up about windows mobile 6.5 launching at #teched... I'm glad to see such excitement! My understanding of current plans is that devices are planned to roll out in the latter half of 2009 and we're showing you some of the coolness of 6.5 at #teched. It will be cool no doubt, but devices won't be launching until originally communicated...Anonymous

Sprint has nothing else to offer? Except for 4G right? and of course the Diamond and Pro, and I'm sure the Diamond2 and Pro2 in the future, Sprint is cleaning up its act and I wouldn't count them out just yet, at least they aren't T-Mobile.Anonymous

Hey Microsofties, good luck with WinMo 6.5! I hope we can start to recapture some of the enthusiasm and excitement that characterized the scene a few years back. One fervent request: can you guys spend just a little bit of time, and make this blog -- and other mobile-related pages -- WAP enabled? I used to be a HUGE fan of winmo, then quickly realized that MS fell asleep. Apple is now on version 3.0 and are making it available for free for earlier version users. By not making this a FREE (or close to free) upgrade to Winmo 6.1 phones, you are basically forcing us Winmo users to look at alternatives. This is no longer about making money anymore, it's about saving the Winmo "brand". MS has a lot of dissatisified and letdown fans out there.Anonymous

Having owned most of the Windows Mobile phones from back in the day (SPV) up to the Diamond and even the tmobile ameo (ive given most of them a go) I have to say that its too little to late. Who wants a sub standard poke the stylus over here to make it work interface. All these Touch Flo and other GUIs at the end of the day are Windows Mobile underneath. I was a typical MS fan boy loving Windows Mobile until i finally started realising that instead of the mobile phone being a frustrating and annoying device, there are phones out there that are a joy to use and the features just work. Yep you guessed it im across to the dark side, which I have to say is incredibly lighter and brighter over here! Ive kept my iPhone 3G 16GB for 4 months now which ticks the boxes and just works. On Windows Mobile i was always switching phones, trying to find the one that worked for me, but none of them did. Clunky interfaces, the loverly spinning circle of doom while your waiting for something to happen, no more! iPhone V3.0 here I come, and for free to. MICROSOFT WAKE UP!!!!!!!! I really do hope that Windows Mobile 7 is good, but to be honest im not holding my breath! Good luck!Anonymous

@Jon: WM 6.5 is probably going to be available for download on your phone manufacturer's Web site. HTC did that to close the WM 5.0-6.0 gap.Anonymous

Hey come on PPC Jack, criticism is necessary to progress. As a developer, what I hear is that the touch interface is winning hearts, multitouch even more so. Pens are not really touch. And wait cursors are better not seen. (I write from an Aspire One on the ferry, with somewhat ambiguous feelings about the future of MS in the mobile arena, much like some of the others.) Perhaps developers should reflect on the 'Koi Pond' app on the iPhone web site and ponder the definition of success from the viewpoint of both MS, app developers and those who would download and enjoy watching fish swim around on their phone. I been with Sprint for 10yrs now and glad to stay this long. They beat T-Mobile anytime. I had lots of friends who Dump t-mobile due to it terrible drop coverage. All my friends switch to Sprint and their complaints have ended since switching to sprint. Sprint 3G is very fast and can't wait until 4G comes it make me watching live TV more smooth. Only select new handsets will offer a free upgrade to 6.5. touch HD will not (what i heard), htc diamond2 and pro2 will though. i own an omnia i910 and don't expect it. doesn't matter, already have it-check modaco site (wozzer999 made one for it). i really like it on my omnia and we can "customize" it further than what the official release will ever allow.Anonymous

While analysts clamor together to scream "sell" based on speculative press, I believe it'll create a good buying opportunity for a company with an actively involved CEO, a solid technology roadmap, and an exploding market for wireless bandwidth. Whether it's voice, text, emails, web surfing, navigation and coordination, or downloadable textbooks and novels, the demand's not going away and there's room to play. After having AT&T for two (awful) years I'm glad I stayed with Sprint for the nine years that my two Sanyo phones have lasted (yes I'm a Luddite), and I'm looking forward to trying out a Pre. (Don't forget that in the incestuous Silicon Valley Palm/Apple circle many of the engineers bringing you the Pre were the ones that brought you your iPhone to begin with).Anonymous

I've been using a MinMo phone for a little over a year now, and Im really excited for mobile 7. Microsoft is trying really hard to get their image back to what it sued to be, now that that they have really good compition in apple. Windows had rested on its laurels way too long, and they're playing catch up now, theres no denying that. However, with the Iphone being out almost 2 years now, and the mac really catching up to PC sales, I think microsoft understand the urgency of the situation. take Windows 7. Its beautiful. its what Vsta should of been. The beta was near flawless, and the RC is even better!Anonymous

What I want to know as a developer is will the Windows 6.5 SDK be released to run with VS2008 in just the Vista OS or also on XP?
