SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 now available

Just over a week ago the SCVMM team released SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 (details here), further more Greg - from the SCVMM team - posted the details on how to get this for yourself here.  Of key importance is that this adds support for managing the new features in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 – namely Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX.

I upgraded my SCVMM server this weekend.  Even though the download for SCVMM 2008 R2 SP1 is a full standalone installer – you can run it against and existing SCVMM server and it will quickly update it for you:

When it is done – you can see and configure Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX:

One point to make: if, like me, you manage your SCVMM server remotely you will need to apply the service pack to the SCVMM server and to any clients that you are using to administer SCVMM.

Cheers,
Ben

So, you're saying you aren't dogfooding at home running the RC of SP1? Because (as I am sure you are aware) that requires a slightly different upgrade process: technet.microsoft.com/.../gg318084.aspx I'll be upgrading to SP1, but am considering whether I should move it up a notch in the home infrastructure and go to SCVMM 2012 Beta instead though :)

Thanks for this Ben, I was just starting to look at SCVMM.  Couple of question newbie questions:  Do you need a domain controller to run this?  I'm running Hyper-V in my home, and haven't really felt the need to add a DC to my network.  (maybe I should...??)   Secondly, would it make sense to run this as a VM on my hyper-v host, or should this be run on a separate physical machine?  (or a vm on a separate physical host?) Thanks!!
