Friday afternoon hardware
As is often the case – I have spent most of my Friday afternoon working on my test lab in my office. This week I have a new toy to play with:
That is a pair of 10G network adapters with the appropriate cable to connect them. This is actually the first time I have been able to get some 10G networking equipment for myself (most of the good hardware goes straight to the central test lab – and is never seen by us Program Managers). I have just managed to get it all working – and am looking forward to seeing what it does to my live migration times.
Speaking of which – and I know I have blogged this before, but it really is useful – if you are planning your network configuration for live migration, this is a great place to start: Hyper-V: Live Migration Network Configuration Guide
Cheers,
Ben

Wish we had faster than Gigabit Ethernet on the desktop because SSDs can easily go faster. It will probably take another decade for 10 Gigabit Ethernet to reach the average consumer desktop.Anonymous

Outstanding! Great, you got some new toys. Did you go to journalism school to learn how to convey such useful information? Thanks for wasting my time.
