Hints and Tips for creating your poster presentation for the Imagine Cup UK SDI
Following on from the day when Ian and I (https://blogs.msdn.com/ukstudentzine/archive/2006/01/26/517825.aspx) attempted to prove how easy it is to enter an idea into the UK Imagine Cup competition I have sat down and very quickly taken the sample poster presentation and added the FATT entry on top.
Again, it should be noted that this is the bare minimum to enter the competition and isn't necessarily worthy of getting through tot he finals on the 10th March. If your entry form is good enough competitors will be notified after the 1st March to their success. During the week between the 3rd March and 10th March (final event, yay!) teams will have to prepare an academic research style poster presentation for the judges.
Attached is a very rough example of the FATT poster - Download here
Hints and Tips:
- The PPT template is A0 sized so maximise the use of space with as much relevant and useful information as possible. (Check 100% view to see the scale)
- Use diagrams and summary bullet points to ensure that judges can easily interpret the content. They will not have time to read an essay on an A0 page!
- Apply your own style and university look and feel to differentiate yourself from the competition.
- Treat it like a presenation and think about how you would 'walk' a panel of judges through the poster telling them all they need to know about the poster and the entry. I would suggest having a lead presenter to do that bit and have supporting people chip in if a particular question has been asked.
- Screenshots, product logos and a professional look and feel will give you that professional look and feel. Remember, after the UK final the team will have the opportunity to become a real software development team and produce their product.
- Give credit to contributors, team members, mentors and third party vendors who were used in the idea.
