Tip of the Day: Securing Lync Meetings

Today’s Tip…

By default, Lync uses the same meeting ID for every Lync meeting you create.  This means that if you send a meeting request to customer A and then later send a meeting request to customer B, it is possible that both customer A and B could join each other’s meeting.  While this is fine for some scenarios, it is not very secure.  You can easily improve security by configuring Lync to create a new meeting space for each meeting and limiting the attendance to specific people.

This change will configure Lync to create unique meeting IDs for every meeting.

1. Click on the Calendar button in Outlook.

2. Click on New Lync Meeting on the tool bar.

3. In the new meeting window, click Meeting Options.

4. On the Permissions node, choose the “A new meeting space” radio button.

Thank for the great security tip, Robert. It's simple but not obvious.
