Office 12 named 2007 Microsoft Office System

In celebration, I'll update the category titles.

Here's the news: C|Net, Microsoft Watch, PC World, Info Week. Of course there is more, but how much more do you need on a name change? Sheesh.

and here's the official press release. The pricing page is to the point if you want the authorative answer to your questions:

https://www.microsoft.com/presspass/presskits/2007office/default.mspx

The quick summary is that prices will pretty much stay the same, but there will be additional products and offerings, particularly for Enterprise customers.

I think the name change is ridiculous. "2007 Microsoft Office System"? Was someone in marketing doing drugs? What happened to Microsoft Office 2007? It just looks ridiculous the other way around. And it's especially dumb when all the individual applications are named and versioned the old way, but the suite name is bass-ackwards.

    -Just venting....

Yeah, it is stupid.  Kind of like how Office XP was XP but the apps were 2002...

Though, the numbering is similar to cars.  e.g. 2006 Ford Mustang vs. Ford Mustang 2006...

Lets face it... we had Office 95, 97, 2000, 2003.. Throwing XP in there just confused people.  Everyone will call this Office 2007.. so it won't matter what the Marketers want to brand it.

Yep, that was one of the reasons for "Office 2007" - the XP got a lot of people thinking which was more recent: Office XP vs. Office 2003.
