Good code and bad coffee
I'm in Reston, VA this week with team members Ayman Shoukry and Alex Thaman where we're putting on a VC 2005 developer lab for a handful of east coast-based ISVs. This is similar to the Redmond lab I wrote about a while back. I'm actually on a break for lunch, but I need to mention two things:
- We managed to get all attendees' code bases compiling and running successfully on VS 2005 on the first day! This was huge! We even got a couple folks compiling some elements for .NET using the /clr switch and one developer successfully targeting Itanium IA64 as well as his current Win32 code base. Not sure what we'll do for an encore today, but we'll think of something. :)
- I had a truly horrible cup of coffee today. I felt it was my duty to blog about this travesty to serve as a warning to all other potential purveyors of bad coffee. The hotel I was staying at had a little espresso stand in the lobby. That in itself is no cause for alarm, as I've had many a great latte from espresso stands. However, I realized something was very amiss when, after taking my order for a Grande Nonfat Latte, the "barista" poured milk into my paper cup and steamed the milk inside the paper cup. When the milk was done steaming, or whatever the heck it was doing in the cup, she poured in the espresso into the cup and handed it to me. As one might predict, it tasted like Grande Nonfat Cardboard. But the truly horrific thing about this experience? She charged me SIX BUCKS. Honestly!
