.com era buzzwords
I like words. Whereas normal, high functioning people appreciate words for their ability to communicate ideas in a handy, portable format, I get positively tickled when I hear a good turn-of-phrase or see an unusual-but-perfect word employed for some circumstance. As proof, that previous sentence contained far too many words to be intelligible. But I digress. CNET today published a list of their top 10 .com era buzzwords. Perhaps it's a slow news day at CNET, what with Google making them talk to the hand and all, but - as a word nerd - I did find the list amusing. I'm afraid 5, 7, and 10 are still very widely used within Microsoft. By the way, the funniest phrase I learned during the .com era is "oxygen thief," referring to an individual whose perceived value in an organization is nil. As in, "Man, our network is down AGAIN! Bob the IT manager is a total oxygen thief." I didn't say it was nice, just funny.

Wow, that's one I haven't seen and I must admit being tickled by it. I vote for Saturn ^_^
(I can even think of a Douglas Hofstadter quotation that would benefit from that choice of worldplay.) - Anonymous
