Tech4Good : May 2013 – Going Big with Big Data
In This Issue…
Computing power and artificial intelligence have become so advanced that we have the ability to analyse huge amounts of data - called "big data" - to help derive insight, project trends and solve important issues. Now nonprofits have access to the computing power and applications that can be used to store, share, analyse and present data in a meaningful way.
Big Data
Research firm Gartner reports that we create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data daily, which means that 90 percent of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone. The data comes from social media posts, uploaded videos, the collection of traffic and weather information, and online shopping. The question is how can it be used by the nonprofit sector and used for good?
