New! Sysinternals TechCenter
Utility Update Details:
Announcing Process Monitor v1.0
We’re excited to announce the release of Process Monitor, a system monitoring tool that not only replaces Regmon and Filemon by including file system and registry monitoring, but adds process, thread, and DLL monitoring as well as advanced filtering, event information, and basic data mining capabilities.
This DebugView update supports Windows Vista, including Windows Vista 64-bit for x64.
Streams v1.53 includes a minor security change in the way that it opens files that allows it to access more files.
These updates reflect minor bug fixes.
PsShutdown includes a bug fix for the –t switch (revved to 2.51) and PsGetSid no longer uses a service to query the local system SID.
This release fixes bugs in path parsing and 32-bit path resolution on 64-bit systems and adds support for Local Security Authority security providers.
This Process Explorer release fixes a bug in 32-bit path resolution on 64-bit systems and changes the threads tab to asynchronously populate its thread list.
Ctrl2cap now works on 64-bit Windows Vista for x64.
Site Update Highlights:
Hello and welcome to the new Sysinternals TechCenter. We hope you'll find this new format as convenient as the previous Sysinternals site (https://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/default.mspx)
We are nearly finished migrating all the content over to this new site (we’re still moving a couple Information pages). During the first few weeks of this new site, we will be monitoring an e-mail alias dedicated to troubleshooting site issues you may encounter. If you cannot find something or run into a problem with the site, please don't hesitate to contact us at syssite@microsoft.com. Thank you for your patience during this migration process.
We hope you’ll be pleased with some couple new features that we’ve added to this TechCenter. Our primary goal is to help you find the right tools and navigate to the desired information as quickly as possible. They are as follows:
1) A powerful new complete index of all the Utilities. Now all the tools are just one click away (notice the new ‘hover menus’).
2) In addition, we’ve added a single download that contains all the utilities call the ‘Sysinternals Suite’.
3) In order to summarize the changes we’ve made to the licensing terms, a Licensing FAQ page has been created.

Hello FirefoxUser! We haven't gotten the fly-out menus to work with Firefox yet, but we have bolstered the Utilities Index page to include the Suite, Version, and Date. Hopefully this will be an adequate work-around for now. Thanks for your feedback.Anonymous

Overall, the new site looks good. Some problems though: The fancy menus for the utilities index and SysInternals information don't seem to be working in Firefox. Now that's just... sloppy (and I'm being nice here). The SysInternals Suite download is available in the menu, but not on the page that appears if you click the top 'Utilities Index' entry. Since Firefox users don't get the menu, this download is not available to them at all.Anonymous

Thank you for the quick response, Otto. Yes, that will work fine for now. Publishing the suite as one download is a great idea, by the way - for me, it's the most useful site-related feature introduced with the migration.Anonymous

Looks pretty good. You might want to consider placing a link to Mark's latest blog post on the main page. I liked how you could, on the old web site, see if a new post had been made without actually going to the blog. Just an idea. It's a shame that all of the source code is gone. While I understand that you want to limit people from using it in other programs illegally (or so I would assume), you might want to consider putting the source code for very simple programs back. For example, the Streams program. Source code for that program would probably help someone trying to build a program that could read the NTFS streams. An example is always very helpful. Anyways, I'm glad that the informative articles that were on the old Sysinternals web site are still accessible. I was worried that some might be "censored" because they include information on the native APIs and such. Seeing that MS has allowed these to stay has shown me that Microsoft intends to further the spread of knowledge. Good job!Anonymous

the new process explorer has changed the 'Google...' option to read 'Search online...' and it sends your searches to search.msn.com. this doesn't surprise or offend me at all. however i am surprised and offended that we aren't given the option to change what search engine we use.Anonymous
November 09, 2006
In regards to phray's comment, that is a shame. You'd think that you'd at least be given the option of a search engine. Also, changing it like that for no reason looks rather silly. Come now, let's not go around changing things in well-written programs just to give your company an advantage. Just my thoughts.Anonymous

You being M$, there's realistically little hope to have source code or Google back, at least not until the likes of European Commission are right on your back. But at least you could get us back the possibility to see what tools have changed or been added over a period of longer than one day. You know, the way we had it at good old sysinternals...Anonymous

- No Source Code?
- No TDIMon? Let me see..Microsoft expects us (developers) to be able to develop using minimal sample code [or buggy code, check out your LSP sample as it was] What would be nice would be if now that there is no real point in keeping all the source code for these apps closed, you released them for us to play with. Sure, if you worry about the implications of releasing the source code security apps, keep them behind bars [although that would just be security by obscurity]. But something like TDIMon? But lets not dismiss you out of hand - perhaps you will act on the source code, its just taking you time.

Have never seen ProceXp freezed before Microsoft. Now I have just disabled 10.21 on my 2000 server, after a couple of restarts because of procexp memory leak... Looks like beginning of the End... It's a pity.Anonymous

It's great to see Sysinternals as a part of TechNet. My day is spent switching from rereading Microsoft Windows Internals so much the pages are falling out; to Systinternals Site, then to TechNet. How sweat it is to see this all in one area working I hope in concert with all our need at hand. Kudos to TechNet in reaching out and adding this much needed well designed site. PS. Looking forward to the new Microsoft Windows Internals Fifth Edition (this of course is my assumption that you will be writing the next edition). Please don't leave out Windows XP, Server 2003, while adding in Vista. I would like to see the migration process broken down.Anonymous

I really like the new site. However, I agree with the fellow above, I think it is in everyone’s best interest to have source code. Also however, beggars can't be choosers. BTW, please put network I/O in Process Explorer. Why is it not there? Thanks for everything!Anonymous

I've a question for you at sysinternals : why do the releases are now twice bigger than the old one when at sysinternals.com whereas there's nothing much new ? Is it due to any Vista compatibility (if there is) ?Anonymous
