Siemens Teamcenter Running on SQL Server and Windows Server Successfully Supports 5K Concurrent Users

As part of their strategic alliance, Siemens and Microsoft, in partnership with HP and Intel, ran benchmarking tests to evaluate the performance and scalability of current versions of Teamcenter, Microsoft SQL Server, and Windows Server. These tests were completed in March 2011 in the HP labs in Houston, Texas, using HP ProLiant DL580 G7 hardware with Intel Xeon X7560 processors.

The tests were designed to reflect “real-world” conditions. HP LoadRunner virtual-user scripts were used to simulate 1,000, 3,000, and 5,000 concurrent Teamcenter thin-client (browser) users executing common PLM actions.

Five successful test runs were completed, and the results were very impressive. Increasing the load on Teamcenter to 5,000 concurrent users resulted in stable transaction response times and linear growth of system resource usage; transaction performance remained stable with increasing user loads of 1,000, 3,000, and 5,000 users. The testing results clearly show that the current versions of Teamcenter, SQL Server, and Windows Server can support 5,000 concurrent users with excellent performance.
