Scalability - Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA V6 on SQL Server 2008 Benchmarking Datasheet

SQL Server 2008 provides built-in enterprise-class scalability—there is no need to purchase costly add-ons. With SQL Server 2008, you can utilize:

  • Resource Governor to manage SQL Server workload and system resource consumption.  WIth Resource Governor you can specify limits on resources (CPU and memory) that incoming application requests can use.  Resource Govenor is great for addressing common issues like run-away queries, unpredictable workload execution, and setting workload priority to allow one workload to proceed faster then another.
  • Hot Add Memory - Giving you the ability to add physical memory without restarting the server.  Prior to SQL Server 2005 dynamic memory was supported but SQL Server was limited by the amount of memory available at startup.
  • Hot Add CPU - Giving you the ability to dynamically add CPUs to a running system.  Adding CPUs can be done by adding physically, logically, or virtually.

The following requirements must be met to hot-add memory:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
Windows Server® 2003 Enterprise Edition or Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition
64-bit SQL Server or 32-bit SQL Server with AWE support enabled
Hardware from your hardware vendor that supports memory addition, or virtualization software
SQL Server started with the –h option

The following requirements must be met to hot-add CPUs:
SQL Server 2008 Enterprise
Windows Server® 2008 Enterprise Edition for Itanium Systems or Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition for x64 bit systems
64-bit SQL Server
Hardware that supports CPU additions, or virtualization software
