Fixing the mouse in Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn under Virtual PC 2007

The show-stopping "mouse no-workie" issue when loading Ubuntu 7.04 under Virtual PC 2007 now has a workaround!

Use the RIGHT ALT + V to paste the below lines into Ubuntu. Much easier than typing it out.

1. Reboot in recovery mode by pressing ESC on the GRUB screen
2. wget https://librarian.launchpad.net/7583925/unsupported-patch-for-87262.sh
3. chmod +x unsupported-patch-for-87262.sh
4. ./unsupported-patch-for-87262.sh
5. reboot

Voila!  The mouse now works!

*Note: If (aka when) Ubuntu updates its kernel, the mouse will probaby stop working again.  Reboot and choose the patched 2.6.20-15 kernel from Grub.  I hope they fix this upstream!

    Thank you for posting this - I have VPC2007 running on Vista Ultimate on a Q6600 and it works well as long as the host operating system plays well on a normal PC.  I updated Ubuntu and lost the cursor control so as of 8-15, it is still broken - hope they fix it soon.  I'm burning my virtual files to disk now for my bare install - wish someone could post virtual machines up already configured (malware free).  Again, thanks.  The Kitty
