The march of progress, or are we tied to our business?
Sitting in the Sydney Qantas Club on my way to Adelaide for the next round of the Wave launch events. As I look around it strikes me that at least 1/3, if not 1/2 of the people here are tap-tap-tapping away on their PC (including me), & taking advantage of the free Telstra wireless.
Even just 5 years ago this would have been nigh-on impossible & yet now, anyone with a laptop & a wireless card (or wireless modem) can take their business anywhere. Not news at all, I know, but it still does make me stop & think:
-
- What will the next 5 years bring?
- How will this level of mobility change the way we think about business?
- Does the concept of an office exist anymore, or to paraphrase the great Paul Young, is it wherever you get a wireless connection, that's your office?
It's not just the guys in suits either - lots of people from all walks of life here have access to almost unlimited connectivity meaning the rules of the game are changing every day.
How are you adjusting your business model, your value prop & indeed your own life to take advantage of this opportunity / challenge?
Thoughts?
