Heading to DevTeach for tonight's open source panel

At first, when I heard "come down to Vancouver", i thought Vancouver, WA.  I didn’t realize they were talking about Canada.  Thankfully, i looked up the address of the conference hotel before heading south.  The conference https://www.devteach.com is actually in Canada.

I’ve never driven across the border before by myself (and i think i’ve only been to canada 3 times previously since i moved out here).  Should be interesting, as if it can happen to me, it will happen to me in the craziest possible way, so i’m going to give myself a 5 hour buffer to cross the border =)

But make sure you have all your ID when you try to get back into the USA. Your passport is a good idea. Your border guys are much pickier than our border guys (who are mostly checking to make sure that you aren't packing heat). :-)

Our border guards on the Canadian side seem more worried about us having booze or smokes when we come back across, making sure they get their tax dollars. For getting back to the States, bringing your passport is a great idea. Oh yes, the answer to the border guard's question, "what brings you to Canada" is "you are coming to Canada to attend meetings".   Have fun in Vancouver.
