Virtual Server R2: Compatible or what? (bonus: Hypervisors)
I was told yesterday I can't possibly overestimate the importance of virtualization to the Enterprise.
We're talking about scenarios like production server consolidation, business continuity management, enabling a dynamic datacenter, and of course, test and development.
Check this out.
This is a list of over 1000 operating systems that work on Virtual Server 2005 R2, which you can filter and search. Assembled by an MVP. Wow.
Also, I always wondered what "Hypervisor" meant. Hypervisor apparently means "bare metal." It is a feature of the operating system, based on industry standards, and it's a role of Longhorn Server x64 Edition.
If you want to sound cool around your IT Pro friends, you could just paraphrase The Graduate and say something like:
"I want to say just one word to you. Just one word. Are you listening? Hypervisors."
