Market Your App with WMPowerUser

Have you ever published an app for Windows Phone or Windows 8 that you were proud of, but didn’t see the downloads that you were expecting or hoping for? Well, then you are going to want to check out WMPoweruser.  This website calls itself “The Largest Independent Windows Phone Community”, and therefore has LOTS of followers.  It allows users to submit articles about the apps that they have published for Windows Phone or Windows 8 (mainly focused on phone but you do see some W8 stuff).  This basically means free marketing for anyone willing to spend 30 minutes to write up a quick article and submit it.

Now, you may be wondering what the actual effects of submitting an article to WMPoweruser look like.  Well, from personal experience, I can tell you…pretty dang good.  I published Pass Your App a little over a week ago, and in that time, only got about 40 downloads.  After having my article be approved, in one day I saw 140 downloads!!  Not saying that I will continue to get 100s of downloads a day, but you can see, having my article accepted did make a huge difference.

At the very least it’s worth a try if you have some apps that you have published.  It only takes about 30 minutes to write and submit the article.  You will need to include a QR Code with the url to your app and a couple of pictures (take your screenshots from the store), which only take a couple of minutes.  Then, just write a brief description, and submit.  They are pretty open with accepting articles, but they do say that format of the article is important.  You can read more about details on formatting and how to submit here.

If you are looking for a quick example of what I am talking about, you can see my article here.  This article is about my app, “Pass Your App”, which allows users to store a list of the apps that they developed and then pass their apps via NFC to another Windows Phone User.
