Popfly Goes The World
There's another new web technology being announced by Microsoft today. Welcome Popfly to the world of mash-ups and other Web 2.0 services! I had heard rumors about this new technology that was formerly code named "Springfield", but hadn't had time to check it out.
Popfly is a new, easy way to build and share mashups, gadgets, Web pages, and applications. Popfly consists of two parts:
· Popfly Creator is a set of online visual tools for building Web pages and mashups.
· Popfly Space is an online community of creators where you can host, share, rate, comment and even remix creations from other Popfly users.
For more details on Popfly, check out the Popfly alpha site here. What's cool about this is that it sounds like they built it using Silverlight!
Looks like Scoble and the folks at TechCrunch are already talking about it. I gotta see if I can get myself one of the alpha invitations. From the sounds of it, they're rationing those things even inside of the company!
[Update 5-19-2007] Somasegar has written about Popfly over on his blog, plus, via Paul, Rory has a video on Channel 9

@Paul, I hear ya. You know how the whole NDA thing goes. I did push my post out about it a couple of hours before the "embargo" was lifted though... so hopefully I'm still providing somewhat of a service. :) Somasegar also posted about it later in the day. I'm working to try and get more scoops when I can... but I'm no Mary Jo. :) I have to weigh getting a scoop vs. "blogging smart". -PeterAnonymous

See the thread on C9 http://channel9.msdn.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=308448 and see all the people who got early invites, http://blogs.msdn.com/johnmont/archive/2007/05/18/some-of-the-popfly-news-so-far.aspx The people who did the promotion for this project are dysfunctional, how can they just ignore Microsoft Partners and the developer community?
