TechEd 2005 - Day 2

The big news from Paul Flessner's keynote: SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 will ship on Nov 7th. There you have it, that news speaks for itself.

The cabana is an interesting experience I spent half my time lonely waiting for people to go there, and the other half of the time with people lined up to ask questions. Seems like everyone wants to go to sessions or something... :)

I got to go through a couple of demos of the Distributed System Designers for folks that asked. Everyone seemed really excite about using our modeling tools in their new applications. I spoke with Erik in particular about adding application types to the toolbox and the application designer. I could find the article in MSDN that does this, but when I get back to the office and find it, I'll post it here and pass it along to Erik. There seemed to be quite a bit of interest about plugging in additional types.

Again, by far, most discussions was about DSL tools and MDF. Martin Danner from Arrowrock has been using the toolkit and had lots of questions about domain models and the DD file format. Tomorrow, I'm going to give him an overview of the different pieces of the dd file format. And, Juan Perez from Personify Design is interested in DSL Tools to create a designer around the MSF development process and the artifacts that are supposed to be produced by it. The funny part is that Juan is from Redmond, practically a neighbor, but we had to come to Orlando to find him...

Susan and Steve from EDS stop by again to show me where they had gotten overnight from the pointers I gave them on Monday. They're making great progress. I'm amazed at the amount of progress people are able to make with DSL Tools with its limited amount of documentation. But, we're working on that.

Tomorrow should be a big day at the cabana. We have two talks about the Application Designer and Logical Datacenter Designer, a talk on DSL Tools, and a chalk talk at the cabana about the Northface ORM designer. I'll be at the cabana all afternoon.
