Summer School in Turkey: Where Top University Students Spent a Month with Microsoft
Posted by Openness Team
For more than two years, Microsoft Turkey has been running a program called Open Academy (Açik Akademi) with the goal of providing valuable online training for anyone interested in developing mobile applications, regardless of their current skill level.
Open Academy has various levels of online classes, from beginners to advance, and students who complete all the required levels receive a graduation certification and can earn money through publishing their applications to the Windows Marketplace.
So far, Open Academy has registered 135,000 students, delivered thousands of hours of online training, and graduated thousands of aspiring developers.
As part of Open Academy, Microsoft Turkey just wrapped up a program called Summer School. 106 carefully selected students spent the month of August attending full-day sessions at the Microsoft office in Istanbul. During this time, students received both technical and business skills trainings delivered by business leaders and subject matter experts from Microsoft and industry. All sessions were recorded and made available online, where thousands more participated.
“Summer School was a great opportunity to provide valuable training to a very talented group of students. The quality of the content was amazing and the speakers were inspiring.” said Onur Koc, Director Product Marketing, Cloud and Compete, Microsoft Turkey. “I’m excited to see the innovative solutions that come from this group of young talented students.”
A key part of the technical track focused on cloud transformation, with several sessions focused on Microsoft Azure and our Openness vision. Students were interested in learning about Azure’s openness, including support for open source software, as well as the development tools and SDKs available.
Special thanks goes to the Microsoft Turkey Developer Experience team for organizing the event.
