How to get SP1

The SP1 updates for the Windows Installer (MSI) versions of the Office 2013 desktop products, and for the SharePoint 2013 server products, are available from the Microsoft Download Center today, as well as from Microsoft Update and the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) catalog. After a 30-day period, SP1 will begin releasing as an automatic update through Microsoft Update. If you have the Click-to-Run (non-MSI) version of Office, you will be prompted to update within the next two weeks, or you can follow the instructions on the click-to-run support page to update now.

Visit these KB articles for more information on the SP1 updates for the MSI versions and how to get them:

What’s new in SP1?

SP1 provides fixes to improve general stability, functionality, and security in Office, SharePoint Server, and related products. Among the functionality improvements and changes are the following:

  • Compatibility fixes for Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11.
  • Better support for modern hardware, such as high DPI devices and the precision touchpad.
  • New apps for Office capabilities and APIs for developers.
  • Power Map for Excel, a 3D visualization tool for mapping, exploring, and interacting with geographical and temporal data in Excel, is now available to Office 365 ProPlus subscription customers. You can learn more about Power Map general availability on the Power BI Blog.
  • Improvements to the Click-to-Run virtualization technology that installs and updates Office 365 desktop applications.
  • SkyDrive Pro is now OneDrive for Business.

A detailed list of SP1 fixes is available for download. Additionally, SP1 includes all the Public Updates (PU) and Cumulative Updates (CU) that have been released since the 2013 family of products first became available, up to the December 2013 CU and January 2014 PU. These are listed in the following KB articles:

How to tell if you have SP1 installed

In order to determine if SP1 is installed for Office 2013 or a related product, look for the program version in the list of installed programs in the Programs and Features control panel. If SP1 is installed, the version will be 15.0.4569.1506 or higher. Additionally, if you've installed the SP1 update for an MSI product, SP1 will be listed in Installed Updates in that same control panel.

@Philippe: There will be more information provided about the new apps for Office functionality on March 3, in conjunction with the SharePoint conference. The developer documentation on MSDN should be updated on or shortly after that date to reflect the changes:

Several commenters have asked about the availability of full-product installers of Office or SharePoint with SP1: We are in the process of releasing them for volume license customers. Please check back with the Volume License Service Center (VLSC) within the next month.

It appears as if a major bug I filed, for Access 2013, has not been addressed in this SP. Very disappointing. This bug is affecting a critical application at my place of work. This run-time error does not present in Access 2003, 2007 or 2010, just 2013!!!

Since the Installation of Office 2013 SP1 my Lync Contact List is empty. Also no conversations show up. Any comments on that? I'm connected to Office 365 (both Exchange and Lync). Thanks Christian Schindler

I have a number of Task and Calendar folders that are used to manage such items. In particular I have various Calendar folders which are used to manage different responsibilities.

Prior to applying SP1 to Outlook 2013, at the foot of each Task or Calendar item Outlook would display the folder that item resided in (but only if that item was not in the default folder for such items). Since applying SP1 there is no such information displayed.

I don't have an example from my PC to provide, but I have searched on the web for an example. This link shows how it was prior to SP1 http://www.queensu.ca/its/email/staffandfaculty/calendar/outlook2013/appointmentevent/2AppointmentWindow.jpg Note the very last thing at the foot of the image: "In shared folder". It is this that is now missing.

I can't see anywhere in the list of changes for SP1 that this was changed so I'm presuming it's a bug. If it's been removed intentionally, is there perhaps a registry setting or something that will return the display of that information?

Managing my task and calendar items is incredibly cumbersome without this information. As it stands I now need to click through to the File tab where I can see the information under the heading "Move item to a different folder" rather than from the main task or appointment windows.

However, do we know when to expect SharePoint 2013 with SP1, so we can install on Windows Server 2012 R2.

Are there new themes available for Office 2013? The default ones (white and 2 grays) are very boring. I miss the blue tabs across the top that I had with Office 2007.
