NZ DST and Windows XP Embedded (XPe)
Hi All,
We are starting to have a number of queries about Windows XP Embedded (XPe), particular referencing thin client devices for connecting to Citrix and those being utilised in point of sale (POS) systems.
Since Windows embedded is Windows XP, the same fixes need to be applied to the OS if your device has any concept of date and time. The makers of the hardware devices (OEM licensees) are notified of updates as and when they become available. It is the OEM’s responsibility to integrate the updates into their systems and distribute a new image to their client base. Updating said devices is not usually what you’d call trivial, so it comes down to acceptable risk for the end user. The WePOS (Windows embedded Point Of Sale) team are actively campaigning OEMs at present, because this is one area that will feel pain.
So if you use/own these devices, please do contact your vendors to check if they will be affected by a DST change and seek an update from them.
