The Windows Phone 8 SDK was released just as our last flash update went to “print.” Now, we would like to incentivize all developers in New Zealand to try out building apps for Windows Phone 8. For developers who have already built Windows Phone apps, we would like to reward you for converting your existing apps into Windows Phone 8 apps. Download the new SDK, then check out the one step option to upgrade your app. If you upgrade three apps, we’ll courier you a sexy new Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse as a thank you. This is limited to the first 80 developers, so email us your details as soon as your three apps are upgraded & published. For those of you eager to leverage some of the new features of Windows Phone 8 in your app, we are giving you the chance to win 1 of 2 Nokia Lumia 920s. Just incorporate one of the six new features listed below into any of your apps, then email us a link to it published on the store. Each app that incorporates at least one of these gives you a chance in the draw.Eligible New Windows Phone 8 Features:
- Multiple Tile Sizes
- Lock Screen Notifications
- Lock Screen Background
- In-app Bluetooth
- Lens Camera Integration
- Direct 3D App Development
- App to App Communication
- Voice Commands, Recognition, or Text-to-Speech
For developers who have never built apps for the platform, we would like you to start with Windows Phone 8. Build an app that incorporates one of the new features, get it published, then email us your details and you’ll go into the same draw to win one of those shiny new Nokia Lumia 920s. To help remove one last barrier to development, we’re also giving away free Windows Phone Developer accounts to those who need it. We have a limited number of access codes which will waive the USD$99 registration fee for the first year. Just send us a screenshot of your Windows Phone 8 app! For both competitions, your updated (or new) apps need to be uploaded to the Windows Phone Marketplace by 10th of January 2013, and published by the 20th of January 2013. Full terms and conditions are listed below. So what are you waiting for?! If you have any questions about the competition, feel free to email us.
