Small Business Server 2008 - Component Technologies

Let's talk a bit about the underlying technologies that make up SBS 2008.  This time round we're based off of the soon to be released Windows Server 2008 Standard.

Next up we implement Exchange Server 2007 SP1 Standard edition - deploying the mailbox and client access roles.  Followed up with Forefront Client for Exchange which includes a one year trial subscription.  The goal to provide a more secure messaging environment based on Exchange Server 2007 SP1 and utilizing the multiple scan engine technology from Forefront Security of Exchange.  Carrying on from here and on the focus on increasing security we're introducing Windows Live OneCare for Server also with an include 1 year trial license.  We heard a lot of feedback on the need for AV across the server environment, expect more details to come on Windows Live OneCare for Server.

When it comes to managing information and collaborating, again a big ask from Small Businesses we implemented Windows Server Services V3.0 SP1 and of course to finish of the software plus services offering integrated with Office Live for Small Business.

We got a lot of feedback around the compatibility for line of business applications so in the Premium edition we include a second copy of Windows Server 2008 Standard with Hyper-V in either 32 or 64 bit and SQL Server 2008 Standard edition.

Finally to round it all off we introduce 2 CAL's a standard and premium. The standard CAL includes licensing for all of the core services and the premium CAL includes the SQL connection license.
