IE8 Action Plan (& How we can rid NZ of IE6) - barcamp2 Auckland
Thanks to everyone that contributed to the IE8 conversation this morning at barcamp! Some great ideas were presented.
I have uploaded the slides to slideshare (below) - re the numbers... I know these things tend to spark debate (what do they say about lies and statistics)... I have intentionally left out the actual %'s because I don't want to contest the details but I do want to identify the trends. A shed load of kiwis are included in sourcing the data so it should at the very least be deemed indicative of the local market.

Comments so far from the barcamp app... Robert I said IE8 is planned to RTW late this year/early next year and one could suspect that distribution via Windows Update may follow soon after.
Please leave any further ideas you have in the comments below.
Thanks!

Recommend all dial-up users get firefox 3. Not too big to download, and the performance gains will improve their browsing experience.Anonymous

Hey Steve, Personally my experience to date with FF3 has been much worse than FF2, lots of tweeking needed to make it right and most people that aren't comp savy would be auto-updated to 3 then not be capable of making it performant on a standard machine. If you follow the forums you can read more... http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?comments_parentId=80500&forumId=1 I have had quite a few people tell me they have moved from FireFox 3 to IE7 in recent weeks due to numerous issues... so yes I do think for both security and performance that XP SP3 + IE7 is the answer.
