Flickr is Down

Interesting how reliant we become on these online services in a Web 2.0 world!

The flickr blog has a commentary...

"Well, we're sorry about the downtime folks, but some of our image caches flaked out on us, which caused all sorts of weirdness on the site. And not good weirdness, either.

We'll be back in a blip, and will keep you posted until we get it all sorted out!

6PM PST Update: Looks like we wrestled the image caches back under control. We should be back shortly now.

6:15PM PST Update: And, we're back! We do apologize for the outage. And if you see any remaining image oddness on the site, a SHIFT + REFRESH will clear it up."

Funny how the blog say's we're back but the site is still down at 6:53PM PST.

They were down again at 6:45. :) Seems like usual software problems...

On the 'how come they think its fixed when its really down problem' looks like this sentence may be the answer: To be clear, we regard this as a serious problem, but it is something that goes away as soon as we restart the malfunctioning servers (tonight we found that the servers were going insane again shortly after restarting, but we have isolated the problem and believe we have a permanent fix). Sounds like after some futsing around they discovered that the multi-server equivalent of a reboot fixed it, and thought it was fixed, hence the bloggers message, then discovered that it wasn't heance the message being back again. I assume they're all rushing aorund trying to fix it 'properly' like mad things right now. Failure is not an option, people.
