How to setup the proxy server in the Windows 8.1 for Modern App's and Windows Store
Hi again,
Dorian here from Microsoft Support with a blog about a hot topic. I need to blog about this since we have the Windows 8.1 Preview the fix for the Authenticated Proxy Problems our customers faced in Windows 8.
The official KB Article 2778122 said first "Microsoft is aware of these issues, and we are investigating possible solutions. More information will be provided here when it is available." Then we changed it and now you can read this statement "The issues that are discussed in this article are scheduled to be resolved in Windows 8.1."
Well.. in order to use a proxy server in Windows 8.1 Preview Edition with the Modern Apps or the Windows Store you need to set the proxy server here:
Charm \ Settings \ Change PC Settings \ Network \ Proxy
As an alternative for mass deployment, the settings from IE are picked up by this UI, so setting the proxy info via the IE GPO should work.

We have tried this and it doesn't work for ALL apps. Some apps are hitting the proxy as unauthenticated still and some are ok. Any ideas?Anonymous

I see where it lets me configure the proxy settings (nice), but the proxy is not seeing any authentication info, so is rejecting the requests. Any idea on how to resolve this problem?Anonymous

No username/password prompt, no internet function from apps. Very frustrating.Anonymous

Hello Guys,
This is the expected behavior.
The proxy credentials must be stored in the Credential Provider in order to be used by Modern UI and Modern Apps. This is done automatically when you use desktop IE for the first time.
You need to check the Store credentials option in the credential pop-up.
If you don't have this option on the pop-up, please check the registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionInternet Settings!DisablePasswordCaching
this must be set to zero or deleted.
If in this context some apps work - especially Microsoft apps and Store - and others don't, you need to contact the application dev team.
Cheers,
