Itanium hits another body blow

Itanium adoption never got off to a strong start and with the interop benefits of x64 machines from Intel and AMD, the chip architecture has certainly been pushed into a limited number highend workloads such as database and Business Analytics.

In the latest update, Intel has reported yet another blow, with the delay of the next released of the Itanium architecture called "Montecito" and future releases are being future delayed.

I am sure HP will continue to be the major backer and I am sure that this chip will evantually be a success. Will it get run over by Power and newer x64 generations in the mean time which companies like SUN are driving? We will have to wait to see.
