safety in Storrs

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I'm about to head on the road. First stop? Storrs, Connecticut, home of the University of Connecticut. Storrs also has the singular honour of being named America's Best Place to Avoid Death Due to Natural Disaster by Slate. Assuming that I remember how to drive on the snow (I grew up with the stuff, but living in California has made me soft), I'm safe from Mother Nature from Tuesday, 07 March, through Friday, 10 March. I'm unconvinced, but that's because I'm pretty certain that I'm going to die of hypothermia while there. We won't discuss how I'm convinced that I'm going to die of hypothermia any time the ambient temperature is less than 55F.

If any of my faithful readers (that's both of you) are in the UConn area, and if you have a burning desire to meet with a (shivering) user experience researcher from the Macintosh Business Unit at Microsoft, drop me an email.

Whereas in California, chicken is verboten. ;)

I'm also scheduled trips to Rochester, New York, and Austin, Texas.  Austin's gotta have some good barbeque somewhere, right?

Well, apart from being the founding institution and movement for all modern research and education worldwide, hundreds of nobel prizes, its also cold here. But we can offer you a sandwich and crisps at the William B. Gates building, and if you're lucky, might punt yah around the  the river Cam with some fish n chips, if you ever feel like something interesting and off the beaten track ;P

I was just in Cambridge in November, although for personal reasons and not business.  Between that trip, the snow that I had when I was up in Redmond last week, and now going to cold places on the East Coast twice this month, I think I'll have dispensed with the cold for another ten years or so.

(I say that now, but we've got an office in http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/info/usaoffices/northcentral/fargo_nd.mspx">Fargo... )

Well at least you missed the 5" mini-blizzard we had last week. Clear skies predicted for the rest of this week.. at least it will give you the illusion of warmth. Looking forward to meeting up!
