Messenger:Mac 7.0.2 available now

I forgot to mention this last week! Messenger:Mac 7.0.2 is now available, so go forth and download!

This update brings improvements to our support for Office Communicator Server 2007. For those of you who aren't on that server (you're just using Messenger for personal use, not in a business environment with that server; if you're on OCS 2005, you should be using Messenger 6), you probably won't notice anything earth-shattering.

Before anyone asks: I don't have anything to share yet about the public beta of Messenger which will include audio/video support for personal use. Really, the second I've got more details, I'll share them, I promise. :)

Hi, i have 2 questions: 1 - How can i get in touch with future microsoft:mac betas? How to be someone suitable to an invitation on future Office and Messenger betas? (I mean, even the not so public ones) 2 - There is much confusion in sites like mess.be and similars about the state of WLM 2009, Steve Ballmer at CES, Las Vegas, told that the actual build (14.0.8050.1202) is the final one, and since then we have seen no upgrades to WLM. Knowing that the actual state of Messenger:Mac depends on the WLM2009, how are things going THERE? Is it final or not? If not, did he said it wrong at CES? 3 - You did say in older posts that there will be sync between WLM and M:M future builds. Are you going to make the so much waited (and so simple ain't it?) update to Offline Messages system? At the moment we can send messages while appearing offline, and we can receive messages from offline people, and even answer them - but only if we are fast enough, since there is some kind of cap or timeout - 1 minute after receiving the last message from the contact we can no longer answer them - making it impossible to stabilish a normal conversation with the contact. Dont M:M use MSNP15? Will the next release use? Even if not, will we finally be able to send messages to offline buddyes and to receive messages sent to us while we were offline or we will have to continue using mac or html unofficial clones before entering Messenger:Mac just for that? Note that the lack of this part of the basic messaging service canc ause missunderstanding not only to mac users but to their Windows contacts, who thinks that they have sent messages that are going to be readed. Lol, I know i asked a lot, but please answer when you can, ok? Thank you very much for your attention and for sharing the information with the public (the hope keeps us connected to M:M) ;-)

You said two questions and there's three.  Does that mean I get to pick which ones to answer? ;)

  1. If you're in a corporate setting, you can ask your IT guys to talk with your Microsoft account representative.  If you're an individual, you can work hard to become a Microsoft MVP.
  2. I don't know the status of the Windows Live Messenger build and whether their client is final or not.  However, the status of the client isn't as important to us as the status of the server.  It's the server we're talking to.  I can only point you to what we've said publicly about it, which I'm sure you can find just as well as I can via web search. :)
  3. I'm sorry, but I can't talk about potential features in potential future versions.

The Messenger beta will be a public beta.  I don't have any more information to give you yet.  The very second that I do, I'll post it to this blog.
